 A Big Book Awakening workshop
for those with binge eating disorder, anorexia, bulimia, body obsession or anyone who struggles with compulsive eating and compulsive food behaviors. Also sometimes referred to as food addiction.

Freedom
Awaits You

Many of us have spent years overeating, restricting, purging or over-exercising as a way to cope with unmanageability, believing "one day, I’ll be happy when..." The eating, dieting or compulsion to exercise got worse, never better as the years went by. We wanted to get off the merry go round, but couldn’t. Others got clean and sober only to find that their eating or exercise obsession took the place of a former addiction.

No matter what we used to fill the God-shaped hole in our soul, it was never enough. Using the 12-Step book study method of Big Book Awakening, join us as we apply the 12 steps to our Compulsive Over or Under Eating and Compulsive Food Behaviors in such a way that enables us to have a spiritual awakening... An awakening sufficient enough to recover from our compulsive food and body obsession, for good and for all. So we can finally become whole in our soul.
The Workshop Leadership Team will walk you through the 12 Steps, revealing how a Compulsive Eater's relationship with food is addictive in nature, as well as illuminate the reason the Big Book Awakening approach is so successful for many of us. Using this method, we can finally become the men and women God would have us be, finally whole in our soul.

A Commitment to Diversity

Whatever problem you may have with eating, you are welcome at this workshop meeting; regardless of race, creed, nationality, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, cross addiction, membership in any recovery program, or any other trait. All are welcome.

The Survey

We began creating the first workshop to help men and women around the world recover form compulsive eating and body obsession in 2017 when we received a number of replies to our survey. The survey was designed to test the waters about the need for a step-guided workshop on Compulsive Eating within the existing BBA fellowship here in San Diego and around the world. Workshops will be made accessible to both the existing BBA Fellowship members and those new to BBA for the first time.

Cross Addiction Is Common

Many people - even professionals and experts in recovery- confuse the terms cross addiction with dual diagnosis. Cross addiction is a concept that implies that if a person has developed a severe substance use disorder (the term for addiction) to one substance, that person is at a higher risk to develop a substance use disorder to some other substance. The notion of a dual diagnosis generally refers to an individual who has two very different and unrelated psychological disorders, such as depression and an alcohol use disorder.

Compulsive overeaters, compulsive under eaters, and compulsive exercisers have a physical, mental and spiritual malady just like any addict with an alcoholic mind. They are especially vulnerable to disordered eating. Would you like to learn more?

Are you clean and sober from drugs and alcohol but spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about, planning or carrying out your eating or exercising?

We wish to carry the message of hope that you do not need to live in yet another addiction in order to stay sober; there exists a way to live in sobriety that leans towards freedom from food, exercise and body obsession instead of away from it. Do you believe that God can carry you even further?

Did you know?

Overeaters Anonymous is a 12-step recovery program that uses the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous to help members recover from eating addictions. In OA, you’ll find men and women who are morbidly obese, moderately overweight, and average weight. You'll also find members who are quite slender, athletic, and even underweight. Some are still maintaining periodic control over their eating behavior or slowly losing more and more control each day. Others have hit bottom and are totally unable to control their compulsive eating or compulsive exercising. OA members experience many different patterns of food behaviors. These “symptoms” are as varied as the membership. All are welcome!
